QINO

Full name: Quincy Chelius
Alias: Qino
Birthday: November 25, 1981
Team role: singer/songwriter

How did you become a professional singer/songwriter?

I always loved to write my own songs, ever since I was a young boy. For some reason I never stopped doing that. After some years of practising and defining my skills, I started combining my writing with my singing and eventually became a member of Hyplified.

Did you study to become a songwriter?

No, I never studied to become a songwriter. Putting my feelings and emotions into words was something that always made me happy in a way I can’t describe. I personally don’t think it has to be something you study for. As long as you love what you do, you will find a way to evolve in what you are doing.

What are your goals for the upcoming year?

One of my goals for 2012 is to expand our sound globally, so that people overseas can also relate to our music. Next to that we of course need to keep growing in what we’re doing
and keep delivering hits!!!!

Is there a standard work method you use when creating a song?

What I always do when I listen to a beat or a melody I came up with; is try to find out how it makes me feel. Does it make me feel happy, sad, silent, loud? Does it make me feel like partying or is it more of a story telling type of idea? I feel words should add a feeling to a song, not subtract it. Then, when I’m done writing and recording the demo, I listen to it over and over again to make sure the final product gives me the same feeling I had when I started with the song.

Who are your favorite artists?

To be honest I don’t have a favorite artist, since I like too many different types of music to have 1 favorite artist.

Who are your favorite producers?

My favorite producers are Timbaland, Kanye West, The Underdogs, R.Kelly, The Neptunes, Lex Luger, Swiss beats and Ryan Leslie.

Who would you love to work with?

In the future I would love to work with more A-listed producers and artists, so our sound can reach a wider platform, which gives us the opportunity to make more hits all over the world. Also, would I love to work with talented upcoming artists we can build from scratch.

What software do you use for your productions?

We work with Logic Pro and FL Studio.

What is your advice for upcoming producers and songwriters?

Try to create your own sound and master it. Be keen on learning more styles, cause one style can only get you so far. Never loose your focus, always keep a clear mind that keeps the music alive.
